NORTHERN CAMBRIA - One child was taken to a hospital after a school bus collided with another vehicle Monday afternoon, Northern Cambria School District officials said.

A seventh-grade student was transported to Conemaugh Miners Medical Center, Hastings, before being released a few hours later after being treated for minor injuries, Superintendent Dr. John A. Jubas said.

The crash was reported at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Cambria 911 officials said.

A vehicle exiting an alleyway on St. Patrick's Avenue struck the 14-passenger bus on the driver's side. The accident occurred about one mile from the school along a stretch of Bigler Avenue adjacent to the Spangler Fire Hall, Jubas said.

No charges have been filed and the accident is under investigation, Northern Cambria police said.

The bus was transporting middle and high school students home from school, Jubas said.

The response from the fire company and emergency crews was "immediate," Jubas said. The children were examined by medical personnel at the scene, he said.

School administrators met with the family of the injured child at the hospital, Jubas said.

Parents of the other children were notified and picked their children up at the scene of the crash, he said.

Jubas praised the work of emergency responders and school officials in responding to the accident and implored motorists to watch for bus signals and be aware of children while driving.

"This will only enhance all of our efforts with our bus safety week coming up in October," Jubas said.

The crash is the second incident involving a school bus reported in Cambria County in the past several days. A Central Cambria School District bus collided with a pickup truck on Thursday morning. The driver of the truck and eight children on the bus were taken to a hospital for injuries following that crash.
