BELLWOOD - The Bishop Carroll High School girls volleyball team won the 15-team Bellwood-Antis Invitational Tournament on Saturday, defeating Bellwood in the Gold bracket finals, 25-19, 25-12.
The Lady Huskies defeated McConnellsburg in the quarterfinals, 25-11, 25-9. In the semifinals, Carroll defeated Phillipsburg-Osceola, 25-20, 25-19.
Sarah Gomish led the Lady Huskies with 25 kills, followed by Ellie Yahner with 12. Nicole Woomer scored nine service points, and Rachel Jwisnek had seven digs. Janell Gueguen came in with 30 assists.
It marked the second consecutive year Bishop Carroll won the tournament.
Bellwood, which finished 4-0 in pool play and received the top seed in the playoffs, knocked off Hollidaysburg in the semifinals, 17-25, 25-14, 15-10. Bellwood had received a bye in the quarterfinals.
In pool play, Bellwood beat Northern Bedford, Central, McConnellsburg and Penns Valley.
Hollidaysburg advanced to the semis by beating Cambria Heights in the quarterfinals, 25-19, 25-21.
Hollidaysburg went 5-3 in pool play, beating Claysburg-Kimmel and Tyrone, splitting with Mount Union, and losing to P-O. Katie Reed led the Lady Tigers with 80 assists, Kristin Reed contributed 38 service points, Alex Scheel delivered 34 kills and 10 blocks, and Elizabeth Yacobucci added 10 blocks.
Central won the Silver bracket playoffs by beating Tyrone and Shanksville-Stonycreek in two sets each and Penns Valley in the finals, 25-16, 19-25, 15-8. Central went 4-4 in pool play, beating Northern Bedford, 2-0, splitting with Penns Valley and McConnellsburg, and falling to Bellwood-Antis, 2-0.
Ashley Smith led Central with 34 kills, Laura Ritchey had 13 blocks, Megan Hauser delivered 73 assists, and Tessa Shaw added 54 digs.
