WILLIAMSBURG - Everett's offense sputtered to just 20 points while dropping its first three games.
Friday, Spencer McInroy and the Warriors got back to an offense they were used to and more than doubled their combined season output in a 46-12 win over Williamsburg.
"We haven't scored a lot," Everett coach Mark Kirk said. "Spencer feels a lot better in the new offense we put in this week. It's something he's more used to running, the wing-T offense."
Early on, the Warriors' offense didn't have to travel far.
Zakkery Jays had a pair of long kickoff returns, and Austin Karns had another, each setting up touchdowns.
Jays took the opening kickoff back 70 yards before being caught from behind by Cody Bookhammer. Three plays later, McInroy found Rhoat for a 7-yard touchdown pass.
"We have had great field position but haven't been able to capitalize the first three weeks," Kirk said. "I know it sounds bad, but we actually spend a ton of time working on kickoff returns in practice, and Zakk was really breaking them off tonight."
Williamsburg responded with an impressive 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that was capped off when Austin McMonagle connected with Trey Bookhammer on a 25-yard touchdown pass to tie the game.
The momentum was short lived, however.
Karns took the kickoff back to the Williamsburg 6-yard line, and on fourth down, Colton Mearkle ran 3 yards into the corner of the end zone.
Everett then outscored the Blue Pirates, 20-0, in the second quarter. The Warriors got touchdown runs from Kyle Droz and McInroy sandwiched around a 48-yard pass from McInroy to Rhoat.
Rhoat finished the game with two touchdown catches and an interception.
"We just weren't ready to play tonight," Williamsburg coach Bob Hearn said. "It showed from the opening kick. Everett played hard and was physical. You can't start with your backs to the wall twice so early like we had to after those kickoff returns."
Williamsburg scored first in the second half to cut the lead to 34-12, but Everett tacked on two more rushing touchdowns, one each from Kyle Sheaffer and Jays.
The Blue Pirates played their first full game without Sean McCauley, who was injured during a loss to Glendale last week.
"[McCauley's] injury has hurt us a lot," Hearn said. "He's a big kid and blocks well. We shuffled some guys, and we need other to step up, but those kids aren't 6-foot-3, 285 pounds like Sean."
Everett (1-3) will host West Branch next week while Tussey Mountain will travel to Williamsburg (1-3).
"We have been in the three games we lost," Kirk said. "We told them this week, do you want to feel how you felt after those games, or do you want to feel good? They did exactly what I told them to this week, but we need to get on a roll."
