Joanne L. Thompson, 82, Altoona, passed away Friday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Kenneth and Marguerite (Ziegler) Thompson.
Surviving are several cousins and many friends.
Joanne was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She retired from Verizon in 1985 with 35 years of service. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and volunteered at Altoona Regional Health System and the American Cancer Society.
Joanne enjoyed animals, especially her beloved cat, Micah.
Friends will be received from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Santella Funeral Home, the Rev. Thomas E. Ekstrand officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In memory of Joanne, contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
