He was preceded in death by a son, Wendell D., in 1955; five sisters: Martha Teeter, Marie Miller, Freda Burket, Mary Grace Replogle and Irene Replogle; and four brothers: Carmon, Clark, Milton and John.

Jesse was a graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg. He retired as a lifelong dairy farmer on the family's farmstead near Curryville in 1982, maintaining a chicken egg sales route in Altoona for many years, and he was also an insurance agent representative in the Morrisons Cove area for Mennonite Mutual Aid, Lancaster County, for many years.

He served as a director for Morrisons Cove Camp of Gideons International and formerly served on the board of directors for the Northern Bedford County schools. He was a longtime member of Martinsburg Mennonite Church, where he formerly served on the church council, building committee and deacon board and sang in the choir.

Jesse enjoyed hunting, woodworking, farm mechanics and inventing and was considered an innovative farmer. As a resident guest at The Village, he was well received as a kind, gentle, considerate and contented person with a great sense of humor. He devoted his life to his church and his family.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Martinsburg Mennonite Church, Pastor Joseph H. Furry Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be given to The Gideons International or Martinsburg Mennonite Church.

Arrangements are by John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
