Former Penn State quarterback Kevin Newsome is not listed on Temple's depth chart, either at quarterback or receiver, making it doubtful he will play Saturday against Penn State.
Newsome was given a brief shot at receiver a week ago by Owls coach Steve Addazio, but for now he's back at quarterback. There are three players listed on the depth chart there, so Newsome is no better than fourth string at this point.
"You want him playing quarterback for you because in a blink someone goes down," Addazio told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "All of a sudden, you are one snap away from playing in the game."
Newsome was not available for interviews this week.
Newsome backed up Daryll Clark at PSU in 2009 and was beaten out by both Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin in 2010. He transferred just before the start of the 2011 school year, sat out the football season and enrolled at Temple in January.
