Penn State has filled another of its scholarship openings in the secondary.
According to Internet reports, Kasey Gaines, the 5-foot-10, 160-pound defensive back from national power Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., made a verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions on Wednesday. He brings Penn State's list of recruits in the 2013 class to 10.
Gaines also was being recruited by Harvard, VMI, Presbyterian and Howard, just received an offer from Miami of Ohio and reportedly was beginning to draw interest from several larger schools - including Wisconsin - in recent weeks. He was the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Gwinett County Defensive Player of the Year last season as the Rams won the state Class AAAAA championship and a preseason all-state pick.
Penn State now has three verbal commitments from DBs - Gaines joins Jordan Smith from Washington, D.C. and Neiko Robinson from Alabama by way of Florida.
