DeGol captures Scotch Valley’s medal play title

HOLLIDAYSBURG - The 2012 Scotch Valley Club champions were crowned, with David DeGol Jr. winning the title in men's medal play. Michelle Day captured the title in women's medal play.

Men's match play was won by Dennis DeGol, while Brian Smith won men's senior play.

In Greater Altoona results, the team of David DeGol, Dennis DeGol, Brian Hall, and Rob Chamberlain won the men's team championship. The women's championship was won by the combined efforts of Michelle Day, Chris Sisto, Elaine Magee and Sylvia Schraff.

Iron Masters

ROARING SPRING - Wes Elder defeated Ken Love by one stroke with a birdie on the final hole to capture the Iron Masters Match Play Championship, which was his first.

Mike Kelly defeated Ken Emigh to win the championship flight beaten 8s. The first flight was was played to a draw between Kevin Feath and Rick Mock. The first flight beaten 8s was won as Matt Snyder sneaked by Terry Funcheon. In the second flight, Mike Farrell defeated Ken Macklin in the final match. John Dively defeated Jack Brady to win the second flight beaten 8s.

Holes-in-one

n Dr. Patrick Barnes carded his first hole-in-one on recently at the Sunehanna Country Club's 138-yard 10th hole with a 7 iron. He was playing with Dr. Steve Mock, Hugh McNelis and Mike Shaffer.

n Jim Burke shot a hole in one on the Sylvan Hills second hole from the blue tees. He was playing with John Roland, John Bottenfield and Dave Johns.

n During the Iron Masters match play tournament, Matt Dillion shot a hole-in-one on the par 3 third hole. He was playing with Eric Glunt, Nolan Robbins and Rick Mock.

In the stroke play club championship, Brett Miller his first title, with rounds of 76 and 71. Miller trailed by three strokes entering the second day to leader Rick Dillion. Dillon ended up finishing third followed by Garth Honsaker in fourth, while Wally Clapper was the runner-up. The handicap championship was won by Randy Jarratt, and Patti Dodson won her 11th women's club championship.

Sylvan Hills

HOLLIDAYSBURG - The team of Connie Agneski, Alice Foor, Linda Wise, and Linda King won the Sylvan Hills Golf Club Ladies Golf Association Ladies Scramble.

The second place team consisted of Mary Jane Terza, Lynn Durbin, Pete Smith and Barb Smith, while the third-place team featured Linda Derman, Marian Monios, Denise Madden and Mary Lou Preston.

Connie Agneski also added the longest drive on No. 6, and Susie Haught had the longest putt on the same hole.

The Member Appreciation Day Scramble was held, and coming in first place was the team of Walt Focht, Chad Wensel, Olga Romerowicz, and Denise Madden. The second-place team consisted of Barry Wicks, Paul Conway, John Kyle, and Loretta Scheiter. In third place was Dave Sheridan, Brian Walters, Branda Flick and Helen Singel.

Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON - John Hughes and Bill Landis won the 35th Big Orange Championship, winning the first cycle with a record of 6-3 and tied for the second cycle with a record of 5-4. A playoff for the second cycle could not be played, due to league rules. New players and teams will be picked at the Oct. 6 picnic.
