Richard D. 'Dick' Reeder

March 22, 1922 - Sept. 15, 2012

Richard D. "Dick" Reeder, 90, Duncansville, died Saturday at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Lock Haven, son of the late Ira G. and Charlotte (Hartsock) Reeder. He married Wilda A. Bitting on Nov. 12, 1948, in Renovo.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Sharon Wertz of Hollidaysburg; a son, Arden and wife, Deb, of Harrisburg; six grandchildren: Krista Luchetta, Kimberly Wertz, Shannon Becker, Julia Reeder, Jasmine Reeder and Destiny Reeder; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane (Reeder) Shearer; and a brother, William Reeder.

Dick attended Bucktail High School. He served as a technician fifth grade with Troop 6, 92nd Cavalry, U.S. Army, during WWII from November 1942 to January 1946, receiving several medals for his service. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1984 after more than 40 years of service.

Dick was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Duncansville. He was a Jaffa Shrine Noble and a Roadrunner and really enjoyed helping people and driving the children to the hospital. He couldn't sit still and also drove cars for Stuckey Ford, Courtesy Motors and Courtesy Ford. He was also a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Hollidaysburg American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, by the Rev. Kevin Locker. Entombment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
