Herbert Andrew Smith, 88, Roaring Spring, died Saturday evening at Valley View Home following a brief illness.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Andrew H. and Marie (Dick) Smith. He was twice married, first to Marian (Dodson) Blazevich of Imler, then to Shirley Simmons, who died Jan. 1996.
He is survived by three children: Kenneth Smith and wife, Delores, of Roaring Spring, H. Michael Smith of Imler, and Suzanne Strong of Harrisburg; six grandchildren: David and wife, Valerie, Cindy, Amy, John, Amber, and Erin; and four great-grandchildren.
Herbert was the last of his immediate family.
He attended Morrison Cove Baptist Church, Baker Summit.
He owned and operated the family dairy farm in Taylor Township for many years and he also had a milk store and delivered milk for several years.
He attended Morrison Cove High School.
Herbert had some veterinary training and loved helping animals, from cows to cats and dogs. He also enjoyed fishing at the Steam Pump Dam and hunting.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Morrison Cove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Morrison Cove Baptist Church by Pastor James Beach. Interment will follow in Holsinger Cemetery, Baker Summit.
