T. Gerald Risbon 84, Mark Hanna Rd., Ashville, died Saturday at home.
He was born in R.D. Ashville, son of the late Joseph and Pearl (Crawford) Risbon. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jane Booterbaugh, on Aug. 4, 2004; daughter, Linda Lysk; and brothers and sisters: Gilbert "Gib," Clement, Merle, Frances Lauer, Bernard "Bun," Cletus, William, Wilmer "Crow," Josephine Pringle, Alfred "Buss" Domzella, Mary "Hun" Sirochman and Marjorie Rose.
He is survived by his children: Bernie (Michelle Brown) of Carlisle, Cherie Risbon Houghton (Bryan) of R.D. Ashville and Nina Wolfinger (LeRoy) of Broad Top City; seven grandchildren: Steven Lysk (Lisa), Karen Lysk, Michael Risbon (Theresa), Jason Risbon (Rachel), Kevin Risbon, Kaitlyn Risbon and Don Shay (Tracey); seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Mendicino of Greensburg; a brother-in-law, Jack Rose of Irwin, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was awarded the Occupation Germany Medal.
Gerald enjoyed farming and spending time with his dogs.
He retired from Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in 1992, and previously worked at mines in Wilmore and worked for Cresson State School.
Gerald was a former member of Ashville VFW and Loretto American Legion and a member of Basilica St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Loretto, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. Allen Zeth, Celebrant. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held Monday. Committal will be at St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville. Military rites are in charge of Ashville VFW, Loretto American Legion and other local military organizations.
