High-scoring Rams dominate

September 15, 2012
By Matt Adamiak - For the Mirror

BEDFORD - The Bedford-Richland high school football game could not have been any more lopsided than it was.

The Rams outrushed the Bisons, 280-60. The Rams outgained Bedford in the air, 282-76. And, the Rams had 20 more first downs than did the Bisons (27-7).

With these dominating stats, it was inevitable that Richland would dominate on the scoreboard, and it did, beating Bedford, 62-14, in Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference Section 2 action Friday at Bedford High School.

"They beat us in all three phases of the game," Bedford coach Kevin Steele said. "The defense gave up 62 points. We didn't tackle well. The list can go on and on."

After a 21-point first quarter, in which Kyle Flick caught a pair of touchdowns from quarterback Matt Shaffer, the Rams scored a spectacular 34 points in the second quarter alone. Following a touchdown pass from Nico Pecora to Linnie Joy that gave the Rams a 28-0 lead, the Bisons were able to finally get on the board, when Aaron Henry returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for the score.

The Rams answered back with another touchdown, as Flick caught his third touchdown pass of the first half. Then Tanner Solarczyk, a junior running back, took over the game. Solarczyk had all 16 of his carries and 146 yards in the first half and reached paydirt in the Rams' next three possessions.

Isaac Kline replaced Henry at quarterback to start the third quarter, and during the Bisons' first possession of the second half, drove the Bisons right down the field, and finished the drive by scoring on a 25-yard run.

Richland coach Brandon Bailey was thrilled with the balance on offense.

"We spread it around to a lot of different players," Bailey said. "Our offensive line played great."
