Green Day heads to BJC

UNIVERSITY PARK - Green Day will perform for the first time at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 11.

The group will visit the BJC as part of its Uno, Dos, Tre Tour, which supports it's trilogy of albums "Uno," "Dos" and "Tr," all of which will be released between Sept. 25 and January 2013.

Tickets for the concert will be $27.50, $42 and $52 and go on sale at 10 a.m. today. Tickets can be purchased at the Bryce Jordan Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, Penn State Downtown Theatre, online at www.bjc.psu.edu or ticketmaster.com or by calling 865-5555 or 800-359-5175.

As a bonus, a digital copy of "Uno" will be included with each ticket purchased.

Kids audition for concert

STATE COLLEGE - The State Theatre will hold auditions for area students to perform on stage with Disney and Broadway star Jodi Benson (the voice of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid") from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the theater.

Students ages 6 to 18 will audition to be part of a chorus that will be singing on stage with Benson during her State Theatre shows at 3 and 7 p.m. Oct. 14. Students selected will be asked to sing two songs during one of the performances. Up to 50 students will be selected for each performance.

In order to participate in the concert, students must audition for Executive Director Richard Biever this Sunday or set up a mutually agreeable alternative time. To audition, students will sing in groups of 10 or 12. Students will sing "Happy Birthday" or "The Star Spangled Banner" (or both) a cappella.

Those selected must be available at the following times: 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 30 (Place TBA); 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 (Place TBA); 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13; and for the performances at either 2 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 14.

All students selected will be required to purchase a minimum of two tickets for the performance. Ticket prices are $28, $38 and $48 per seat.

Students will sing once before and once after intermission. During the remainder of the show, students must sit with a parent or guardian in the audience

Dancer giving demo/lecture

Penn State Altoona will present a lecture demonstration of folk and classical Chinese dance by Penn State Altoona's emerging dance artist Ying Xu at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

Xu has received many accolades for her choreography in international dance festivals and competitions in Hungary, Turkmenistan, Japan, London, Sarajevo, and Bosnia. She was an associate artistic director at National Art Palace in Beijing and a visiting scholar at Brigham Young University. Xu trained with the Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York City and performed the duet in the piece "Views of The Fleeting World," choreographed by Pascal Rioult, the artistic director of Rioult Dance Company in New York.

The lecture and demonstration is free and open to the public.

Famed trio to perform

UNIVERSITY PARK - The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, for more than 35 years one of the most celebrated piano trios in the world, will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Andr Previn and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich in concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Penn State's Schwab Auditorium.

The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson concert is the first performance in the second season of the Center for the Performing Arts Classical Music Project, a three-year outreach program funded, in part, by a major grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The public is invited to observe a Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson master class for Penn State School of Music small-ensemble students at 4 p.m. Oct. 2, in Music Building I's Esber Recital Hall.

Tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation are $42 for adults, $15 for University Park students and $32 for those ages 18 and younger.
