Father Louis McIntyre, T.O.R., 86, Loretto, of the Franciscan Friars, Third Order Regular, of the Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, died Tuesday at St. Francis Friary at Mount Assisi, Loretto.

He was born in New Kensington and given the name Felix, son of the late Felix James and Patricia (Sharbaugh) McIntyre.

Surviving are a brother, John and wife, Mary, of New Kensington; a sister, Patricia Wheaten of Santa Clara, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and his Franciscan brothers. He was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine DeStefano.

Father Louis was a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School and New Kensington High School. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country in San Diego, the Marshall Islands and Guam.

He entered the Third Order Regular on Sept. 1, 1946, and professed his temporary vows on Jan. 1, 1948, and his solemn vows on July 1, 1951. He was ordained to the priesthood by the late Bishop Richard Guilfoyle of the Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown on May 16, 1953, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. He received a B.A. degree in philosophy from St. Francis College, Loretto, and studied theology at St. Francis Seminary, Loretto.

During his long and faithful ministry, Father Louis served as follows: faculty of Bishop Neumann High School, Philadelphia, from 1953-57; faculty of Bishop Egan High School, Fairless Hills, from 1957-60; faculty and assistant dean of students at St. Francis College, Loretto, from 1960-63 and 1975-81; director of vocations for the Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Loretto, from 1962-69; parochial vicar at Church of the Little Flower, Hollywood, Fla., from 1969-75; pastor at St. Joseph Church, Herndon, Va., from 1981-88 (during Father Louis' tenure, the present St. Joseph Church was built); parochial vicar at St. Cecelia Church, Clearwater, Fla., from 1988-90; pastor at St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittsburgh, from 1990-92; parochial vicar at Queen of Peace Church, New Port Richey, Fla., from 1993-95; in residence at St. Patrick Church, Tampa, Fla, in 1995; parochial vicar at Epiphany Church, Pittsburgh, in 1996; parochial vicar at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Sarasota, Fla., from 1996-2009; and ministry of prayer at St. Francis Friary at Mount Assisi, Loretto, from 2009-12.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Chapel of St. Francis Friary at Mount Assisi, Loretto, where a vigil service will be celebrated at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the Friary Chapel with the Rev. Richard L. Davis, T.O.R., vicar provincial, as principal celebrant. After the Mass, committal will take place at the Franciscan Friars' cemetery on the campus of St. Francis University, Loretto.
