Frances E. Scherrer, 87, Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Altoona, died Monday evening at the Village after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Albert J. and Bertha E. (Nickol) Scherrer.
Surviving are a niece, Lisa Ann Dugan and husband, Timothy, of Marietta, Ga.; two nephews: John Andrew Scherrer and wife, Lynn E., of Ham Lake, Minn., and Brian J. Scherrer and wife, JoAnn, of Enola; and six great-nieces and great-nephews: Kyle and Ethan Dugan, Evan and Jason Scherrer and Anthony and Kristina Scherrer.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph J. Scherrer, on April 28, 2012.
Frances attended St. Leo's Catholic School, Garfield Elementary School and D.S. Keith Junior High School. She was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School and Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She retired on June 1, 1999, as a registered nurse at Altoona Hospital with more than 41 years of service.
Frances was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont. She also belonged to the Altoona Catholic Nurses Association, Blair County Historical Society, Altoona Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and AARP.
There will be no public visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altoona, Father Anthony J. Petracca officiating. Committal rites will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
