Starting receiver Shawney Kersey has left the Penn State football team for personal reasons, according to multiple reports late Tuesday night.
Both Lions247.com and BlueWhite Illustrated reported the Kersey news, citing anonymous sources. Contacted by phone, Kersey's mother told the Mirror, "No, I can't confirm anything at this point."
Kersey, a redshirt junior, is third on the team with six catches through two games. He has 44 yards receiving, with a long of 13. He had five catches for 108 yards last season.
Kersey missed a week of practice in 2010 and had planned to transfer before having a change of heart and returning to the team. He missed the TicketCity Bowl at the end of last season for undisclosed personal reasons.
