Central tops Black Panthers in tight contest

MARTINSBURG - Ashley Smith led Central with 17 kills in a tight 25-18, 25-21, 25-27, 21-25, 15-9 win over Northern Bedford on Monday night in high school girls volleyball action.

Central's Laura Richey had eight kills, Ivy Tomlinson had 14 service points and five aces, and Tessa Shaw posted 65 digs. Megan Hauser added 32 assists.

NBC's Lauren Eckenroad led the way with 18 digs, nine kills and eight service points, while Cierra Cottle added nine digs and 18 kills. Krista Burket had 12 assists.

SERVICE POINTS

NORTHERN BEDFORD: Bowser 16, Burket 9, Eckenroad 8, Fouse 7, Gouchnor 4, Cottle 3.

CENTRAL: Tomlinson 14, Hauser 13, Smith 9, Shaw 5, Farabaugh 4.

Records: Northern Bedford (1-2); Central (2-0).

JV: Central won, 25-20, 25-23. Katlin Farabaugh had nine service points and four aces for Central; Savannah Devine and Kit Fink each had four service points for Northern Bedford.

Altoona evens record

Altoona evened its record at 1-1 Monday night, thanks to a 25-20, 25-21, 25-15 win over Somerset at the Fieldhouse.

The Lady Spikers got seven service points and 11 digs from Shannon Albright to go with 31 assists from Aubrey Hileman and 13 digs and nine kills from Hannah Moore. Natalie Biesecker and Kate Goodman each added nine blocks for the winners.

ALTOONA: Albright 7, Goodman 4, Hileman 3, Koelle 4, Moore 3, Parrish 2.

Bedford beats Everett

BEDFORD - Bedford beat Everett, 26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11.

Jordyn Cassidy added 20 assists for the winners, while teammate Mikayla Shaffer added 12 kills and Lauren Fedorchak 10 blocks. Emma Wess contributed six digs.

Everett's JVs won, 25-17, 25-19.

C-K sweeps Tussey

CLAYSBURg - Claysburg-Kimmel defeated Tussey Mountain, 25-11, 25-18, 25-22 to improve to 2-1.

The Lady Bulldogs received 13 service points from Brooke Ritchey, including six aces, to go with 11 service points from Emily Weiland. Morgan Malovich added five blocks and three digs to go with two kills from Kara Snyder.

The Claysburg JVs won, 25-23, 25-19.

Tyrone wins in five

TYRONE - Tyrone defeated Williamsburg, 21-25, 26-24, 15-25, 25-11, 15-7. No Tyrone results were reported.

Williamsburg (1-2) got 16 service points and nine kills from Katie Kennedy, and 15 service points and 11 digs from Nichole Lynn. Natalie Kipe had 13 service points, Cassondra Kensinger 11 digs, and Hailey Rhule 10 assists for Williamsburg.

WILLIAMSBURG: Lynn 15, Kennedy 16, Lower 4, Bowmaster 6, Kipe 13, Shaw 3.

Hollidaysburg falls short

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Unbeaten DuBois improved to 3-0 by defeating Hollidaysburg, 25-17, 25-13, 18-25, 25-22.

Hollidaysburg (1-2) got 11 service points from Kennedie Conner, seven kills and three service points from Sierra Kirsch, 17 assists and five service points from Katie Reed, and 12 digs from Meghan Daisley.

HOLLIDAYSBURG: Conner 11, Sibold 7, Stubbs 6, Reed 5, Gottshall 3, Kirsch 3, Ryan 2, Yacabucci 1.
