Joseph J. Burley, 79, Cresson, died Wednesday at home.

He was born in Loretto, son of the late John and Ethel (Vaught) Burley.

Surviving are two sons: Martin (Isabel) of Stratford, N.J., and Lewis (Lidia) of Laurel Springs, N.J.; six grandchildren: Stephen Burley Jr., Nicole and Briana Burley and Erin, Joseph and Nicholas Burley; and two siblings: John "Buck" of Houston, Texas, and Joan Smajda of Johnstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou (McCartney); a son, Capt. Stephen Burley, U.S. Marine Corps, and his wife, Jude; and two sisters: Patricia Maus and Mary Judith Russo.

Joseph served with the U.S. Army in Japan in the post-Korean War era. He retired as an auto body painter/mechanic. He enjoyed his family, wildlife and the outdoors.

Friends will be received from 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, the Very Rev. John D. Byrnes officiating. Committal with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
