Miriam H. Johnson, 92, The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, formerly of Sinking Valley, died Sunday at Altoona Regional.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Warren H. and Belle (Dopp) Garner. She married John W. Johnson on July 26, 1967, and he died Oct. 9, 1984.
Surviving are a nephew, David Garner of Tyrone; and two nieces: Judy Nordlund in California and Laura Glashauser of Tyrone.
She was preceded in death by a brother, H. Paul Garner; and two sisters: Catherine Garner and Gladys Garner.
Miriam was a 1937 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1941 graduate of Susquehanna College. She retired as an elementary school teacher and later as a counselor from Altoona Area School District, serving from 1944-76. She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Miriam enjoyed reading, music, playing the violin and marimba and traveling.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Tom Ekstrand. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg.
