Elizabeth Teresa ‘Bess’ Greinader

Mrs. Elizabeth Teresa "Bess" Greinader, 85, of Altoona died at Saturday night at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Greinader was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William and Ellen (Delozier) Lumadue. She married John J. "Jack" Greinader on Jan. 28, 1947, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by four daughters: Mary Louise Seymore of Amarillo, Texas, Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Thomas of Winchester, Va., Susan Gisele Peoples of Altoona and Sarah Ellen "Sally" Seymore of Altoona, with whom she resided; two sisters: Sara Quinlan and Margie Hoffman, both of Altoona; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bess was preceded in death by ten siblings: Chick, Pete, Bob, Fat, Peck and Mick Lumadue and Edna Ball, Ann Hoover, Helen Douglas and Jean McGill.

She retired in 1998 as a purchasing agent for the City of Altoona with 15 years of service. She previously worked at Black & Yon Insurance Co. for 20 years.

She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.

Bess was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School.

She was a member of IAAP and VFW Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Altoona Railroaders Museum and Altoona Food Bank. She enjoyed quilting, bus trips and musicals.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
