Kirsch, Shields lead Tigers to Yurochko championship

CRESSON - The duo of Jordan Kirsch and Hunter Shields carded a medalist score of 70 to lead the Hollidaysburg Area High School boys golf team to a first-place finish in the 15th annual Yurochko Memorial High School Golf Tournament Monday at the Summit Country Club.

Dave Snyder and Jesse Ottaway added a 79 for Hollidaysburg in the event, which was played according to Ryder Cup rules - with six holes of scramble format, six holes of best ball and six holes of alternate shot.

Hollidaysburg led all teams in the 10-team event with a score of 149. Bishop Guilfoyle was second with a 163, and Altoona was third with a 165.

BISHOP GUILFOYLE (163): Michelone-Suliivan, 81; Madey-Wharton, 82.

S.C. tops Lady Tigers

CRESSON - State College topped Hollidaysburg, 167-185, in a matchup of two girls high school golf teams in the Yurochko Memorial High School Golf Tournament at Summit Country Club.

State College's Jessalyn Holdcroft and Janey Wilson carded an 83, while teammates Kelly Rehill and Casey Sommers shot an 84. Hollidaysburg's Quincey Gildea and Marissa Rosensteel scored an 86.

STATE COLLEGE (167): Rehill-Sommers, 84; Holdcroft-Wilson, 83.

HOLLIDAYSBURG (185): Gildea-Rosensteel, 86; Love-Hekert, 99.

Beford swats Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN - Bedford earned a 3-2 win against Johnstown, thanks to a sweep of the singles matches in a high school girls tennis match at Roxbury Park.

Ericka Klavuhn, Amber Lafferty and Rachel Swartz each won their singles matches, making Bedford's record now 2-2.

BG loses to Forest Hills

Bishop Guilfoyle's record fell to 2-2 with a 3-2 loss against Forest Hills at Mansion Park.

Shannon Murphy and Kathryn Nazaruk both picked up singles matches wins for Bishop Guilfoyle. Forest Hills is 2-1.
