BEDFORD -- John Gerholt pleaded no contest this morning to first-degree murder and was given a life sentence without parole.
John Gerholt Sr., 40, of Mount Union has claimed he accidentally shot his wife, 24-year-old Karen Gerholt, on Nov. 9, 2008, as she left work in Everett.
Bedford County prosecutors wanted the death penalty.

Jury selection began on Monday for the trial.
The plea was announced in Bedford County Court.
