Nellie Marie Burns, 87, Bellwood, died Thursday morning.
She was born in Yellow Creek, Bedford County, daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Hall) Hale. She married Nathan Richard Burns in 1941, and he preceded her in death March 1, 1979.
Surviving are eight children: Nathan R. (Margaret) of Fostoria, Gertrude Eaken of Altoona, Mary (David) Fuseck of Brook Park, Ohio, John of Bellwood, Charles (Joanne) of Janesville, Samuel (Suzanne) of Utahville, Sheila (Donald) Sipes of Altoona and Craig of Skelp; 30 grandchildren, including Amanda, Katherine and Amy Burns; 35 great-grandchildren, including Page; a sister, Mary Ramsey of Huntingdon; a special friend, Galen Hunter; and Jamie, her Grane Hospice nurse.
She was preceded in death by four children: Edsel, Orris, Harry and Marvin; and 11 siblings: Adaline Lewis, Ruth Kingston, Jane Harris, John, Hershel, Charles, Jacob, Fred and Mike Hale and two infant siblings.
Nellie was a member of Logan's Valley Baptist Church of Bellwood. She retired as a cook with Jack Cody of Waffle King Restaurant. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, being with her grandchildren and attending church.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, the Rev. Timothy Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow in Logan's Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
