Mary J. "Mimi" Knee, 86, Gallitzin, died Wednesday at Maple Winds Care Center, Portage.
She was born in Gallitzin, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lesko) Halicky.
Surviving are her husband, Paul R.; a sister, Ann M. Golden of Gallitzin; nieces and nephews: Dr. Joanne Golden and husband, Dr. Max Himelick, of Chesapeake, Va., Dr. Janine Golden of Dallas, Texas, Attorney John Golden and wife, Linda Yanowich, of Pittsburgh, Kevin Golden and wife, Patti Krupski, of Pittsburgh and John Halicky and wife, Cynthia Hubstenberger, of Pittsburgh; and grandnieces and grandnephews: Jon, Kara, Hannah, Taylor and Sydney Golden.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph Jr., Michael and John.
Mimi was a 1944 graduate of Gallitzin High School. She worked as a cashier for the Gallitzin and Cresson A&Ps for 29 years. She was a member of St. Demetrius Parish and also belonged to First Slovak Union and Ashville VFW Auxiliary. She was a charter member and past president of Gallitzin VFW Auxiliary and had been a Girl Scout leader for years.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held this evening. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at St. Demetrius Parish, the Rev. Albert Ledoux as celebrant. Committal will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.
