Shirley R. Detwiler, 85, Altoona, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at home surrounded by her loving family after a three-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Caleb and Vida Tillett. She married Thomas Detwiler on Sept. 12, 1946, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are three children: Leeann (Wilbur) Boggs, Terry (Sandy) and Jeffry (Diana); six grandchildren: Cheryl (Tom), Sean (Stephanie), Genna (Brian), Andrew (Amy), Bill and Liz; seven great-grandchildren: Noah, Evan, Tyler, Nicholas, Aden, Collin and Piper; a brother, Don Tillett; and her longtime companion, George.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Naomi Wertz and Joanne Treese; and a grandson, Eric Detwiler.
Shirley was a homemaker who enjoyed golf, bowling, camping, playing cards and going to Bethany Beach. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and "Mema." Her children were her life. She loved the holidays and the special times shared with her family. She was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church.
Shirley's kind and gentle spirit will be her legacy. She was quick to laugh and would light up a room wherever she went. Her motto was, "If you do one nice thing for someone, it was a good day."
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Nursing Agency at Shirley's request.
