John T. Hileman, 87, Hollidaysburg, died Sunday morning at his home.
He was born in Scotch Valley, son of Thurman and Rhoda (Isenberg) Hileman. He married Jean Louise Heverly on Oct. 21, 1955, and she died June 23, 2012, having shared 56 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons: John T. Jr. and wife, Bonnie, of Loysburg and Scott D. and wife, Katherine, of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Luther and Homer.
John was a 1943 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He retired from Kraft Foods as a warehouse foreman. He also was a retired farmer, having raised beef and crops.
John was a Blair County 4-H leader and a member of the Blair County Livestock Committee, Blair County Farm Bureau, Morrisons Cove Republican Club and Teamsters Local 110. He was the recipient of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Community Excellence Award. He also belonged to Portage Lodge 220, F&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona, and the Jaffa Shrine.
John was a member of Geeseytown Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family, tractors, antique farm machinery and raising white-faced Herefords.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, by Pastor Richard Harter.
Memorials may be given to the Blair County Junior Livestock Committee Scholarship Fund.
