Miss Janet Mary Evans, 75, of Tyrone died Saturday morning at her residence after a brief illness.
Miss Evans was born in Altoona, daughter of the late George and Pearl (Shoff) Evans.
Janet is survived by two sisters: Patricia Vierkorn of Altoona and Eileen "Pinky" Newberry of Bellwood. Janet is also survived by 16 very special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother: Marie O'Connor, Madeline Young and James Evans.
She retired on June 15, 1996, as a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
Janet was a 1954 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Seton Hill College on Aug. 16, 1964, and on Dec. 19, 1973, she received a masters in education from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of Cathedral Choir and Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers.
Her interests were coin collecting, sports and music.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
