Helen Virginia Claar, 84, Klahr, passed away Thursday at home.

She was born in Klahr, daughter of the late Samuel and Minnie (Musselman) Walter. She married Curtis E. Claar on Oct. 21, 1952, in Leamersville, and he passed away March 11, 2007.

Surviving are two sons: Roy and wife, Angel, of Ashland, Ky., and Kevin at home; two grandsons: Adam and wife, Crystal, of Ashland, Ky., and Drew of Lexington, Ky.; two great-grandchildren: Alexis and Jacob; four sisters: Daisy, Nellie and Jean Walter, all of Claysburg, and Pearl Bixler of Goshen, Ind.; and a brother, Edward Walter of Wasilla, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Galen Walter.

Helen was a 1946 graduate of Claysburg High School. She was employed at Sylvania and as a cook at Peggy's Diner for many years. She was a member of Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, where she served as deaconess, and she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, Pastor Greg Quintrell officiating. Interment will be at Upper Claar Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Upper Claar Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
