Josephine A. Bem, 88, Duncansville, died Friday at her home.
She was born in Ashville, daughter of William and Anna (Abretski) Gaida. She married Felix A. Bem in November 1943 in Ashville, and he died April 14, 2005, having shared 61 years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters: Carroll A. Hainsey and husband, Butch, of Bedford and Cynthia J. Bartlett of Altoona; a son, Andrew F. of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Kris, Andy, Melissa, Stephanie and Tessily; nine great-grandchildren: Alex, Jessica, Nicholas, Koleton, Brandon, Anna, Kyler, Sarah and Taylor; and two sisters: Rose Erculiana of Gallitzin and Flo Eckenrode of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings: Anna, John, Joe, Bill, Mary, Pauline, Mildred, Theresa and Irene.
Josephine had been employed with National Radiator and the A&P Warehouse. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville, and she enjoyed yard sales, flea markets, gardening and playing cards.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville. Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery.
