Shop tour interesting

August 9, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

On July 4, my wife and I were able to take a walking tour of the Juniata Shop, which is now owned and operated by Norfolk Southern Railroad.

This was a very interesting experience as we got to see firsthand how locomotives were built from the ground up. I was impressed. The railroad was a part of my life growing up. My grandfather was an engineer; my father was a welder in the shops; and my father-in-law is a pipefitter. Now, my son, son-in-law and grandson work there.

It was a great and interesting day. Please consider making it available again. The people of Altoona and surrounding areas need to know what is here in their own backyard.
