Cyclists hogging roads

August 6, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

Bicyclists of Altoona need to follow the laws when it comes to riding the roads.

All bicyclists - just like cars, trucks, motorcycles - are required to stop at red lights.

What I have encountered, at least on Chestnut Avenue, is that bicyclists are not stopping at the red lights like the rest of us.

They also are taking an entire lane of traffic away from other motorists thus forcing us to either come to a stop while others are driving behind or just go around them to keep traffic flowing.

These bicyclists were not children but rather grown adult men who just rolled through a red light on that road with no regard whatsoever of the other traffic including those in the opposing direction, which had a green light to go.

I hope that this trend does not continue in Altoona because it makes it extremely dangerous for all the other drivers out there.

If they want to be on the roads with us, that is fine. But how about obeying the laws of all people using the roads, which also includes bicyclists?
