Paul Richard "Dick" Rumberger Jr., 77, East Freedom, passed away Saturday afternoon at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Franklin, son of the late Paul Richard Sr. and Ethel (Boyer) Rumberger. He married Helene M. Rogers on Feb. 14, 1958, in Van, Venango County.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Donald E. and wife, Gayle, of Richmond, Va. and Douglas S. and wife, Amanda, of Martinsburg; a daughter, Tawny L. of Altoona; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, James and wife, Ann, of Rogue River, Ore.; and three sisters: Judy Hoffman of Seneca, Betty Lou Williams of Franklin, Ga. and Dorothy O'Brian and husband, Thomas, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by a son, James in November 1988; an infant great-granddaughter, Alexa Detwiler in 2010; and a sister, Sally.
Mr. Rumberger was a graduate of Emlenton High School, Venango County. He retired as a driver salesman for Stroehmann's Bakery in 1997, after 20 years of service. He was then employed as a van driver for Skills of Central Pennsylvania for 10 years and then as a people-greeter at Walmart, East Freedom.
Dick attended Martinsburg Church of God. He was a member and past president of Roaring Spring Lions Club.
Dick enjoyed fishing, playing slot machines in Charles Town, W.Va., refinishing old furniture, country music, solving Sudoku puzzles, John Wayne movies and spending time with his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 until the 11 a.m. public memorial service Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Martinsburg Church of God, with Dr. Lew Button officiating.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Skills of Central Pennsylvania Foundation.
