Helen L. Garman, 88, The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday evening at the Village after a brief illness.
She was born in Flowing Spring, daughter of Lincoln and Elda (Sweitzer) Hicks. She married Samuel M. Garman on April 14, 1944, in Hollidaysburg, and he died May 13, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Darlene L. Scott and husband, Robert, of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Scott and wife, Angel, and Lori Frazier and husband, David; five great-grandchildren: Amanda, Darcie, Abby, Dylan and Elizabeth; and a sister, Esther Clapper of Roaring Spring.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph Gray and Frederick Hicks; and two sisters: Marjorie Holsinger and Martha Walters.
Helen retired from The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. She was a member of Williamsburg Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and being around people.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, by Pastor Marlys Hershberger. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to The Village at Morrisons Cove in memory of Helen.
