Teeter Group's Trent Martin won the Most Valuable Player award Sunday night in the series-clinching win in the Altoona Teener Major League championship finals, thanks to his performance on the mound and with his bat.
Martin struck out 16, walked two while giving up four hits as Teeter Group beat Tom Dickey Law Office, 5-3, to win the best-of-3 series, 2-0. Offensively, Martin collected three hits and drove in a run at Seitz Field.
Martin struck out the side in the seventh and struck out six of the final seven batters he faced for the Teeter Group which lost in the finals last year.
"He was on fire. His curveball was really working. No one could really touch him. We are very proud of him," said Teeter manager Denny Martin.
Teeter Group scored three runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie, thanks to RBI hits from Martin, Joel Reighard and Brandon Weyant, who drove in three runs on two hits for the winners. Weyant drove home an insurance run in the top of the seventh for a 5-3 lead.
Devin Miller had two hits for Tom Dickey Law.
