AASD ATHLETIC SCREENINGS FOR FALL SPORTS: Student athletes who will attend Altoona Area High School and wish to play fall interscholastic sports are required to report for physicals on Monday, July 30 at Mansion Park Athletic Field. Student athletes who will attend Altoona Area Junior High School and wish to play fall interscholastic sports are required to report for physicals at Mansion Park Athletic Field on Saturday, Aug. 4. Each student should report as scheduled and bring completed and properly-signed PIAA consent forms; a parental authorization form, a medical information form, a permission to drug test form, health history questionnaire, and a registration fee form. The required forms are available at the AASD website, www.aasdcat.com, Secondary Schools Athletics page. Student athletes must complete all forms listed under Packet 1. Forms may also be picked up at the AAHS Athletic Office or the junior high school principal's office. Athletes or parents with questions should contact Steve Reimer at 946-8293. The following are times for the physicals. Monday, July 30 at the Mansion Park Athletic Field. AAHS girls tennis, 3 p.m., AAHS golf, 3:10; AAHS football, 3:20; AAHS girls volleyball, 3:50; AAHS cross country, 4:05; AAHS boys soccer, 4:20; AAHS girls soccer, 4:30. Saturday, Aug. 4: AAJHS football, 8:30 a.m.; AAJHS girls basketball White, 9:30 a.m.; AAJHS girls basketball Maroon, 9:50; AAJHS boys and girls soccer, 10:10 a.m.
SPRING COVE: The Spring Cove School District will provide school sponsored physicals for student-athletes this Wednesday and Wednesday, Aug. 1. To make an appointment, contact the school's athletic trainer at 934-9629. A pre-arranged appointment with the trainer is needed for the physicals that will be performed at Dr. Heaton's office. These physicals will cover any fall, winter or spring sport athlete. If you have any additional questions, please contact the athletic director, Chuck Gojmerac, at 793-5326.

ALTOONA AREA TEENER LEAGUE: This league, which is affiliated with Babe Ruth Baseball, will be holding fall clinics for all players, right out of little league, who will be playing teener or pony league baseball next spring.These clinics are open to all players from Blair, Bedford and Cambria Counties. SPANIARD FIT: Charlie 'The Spaniard' Brenneman and CORE Sports Training will be conducting a youth exercise seminar on Saturday at 9 a.m. This 90-minute session will give the participants a chance to see what The Spaniard does to prepare for his fights in the UFC and learn what they can incorporate in their own training. SPRING COVE COACHING: The Spring Cove School District is currently accepting applications for the following open positions: boys head basketball, boys assistant basketball, boys jr. high head basketball, boys basketball jr. assistant coach, girls basketball jr high head coach, girls basketball junior high assistant coach, jr. high football assistant coach, track and field junior high head coach, volleyball girls head coach, volleyball girls assistant coach, boys volleyball head coach. Application will be accepted through Aug. 2, or until a successful candidate is found. The successful candidates will also have to provide Act 34, Act 151 and FBI clearances.
JUNIATA COLLEGE BASKETBALL: There is still time for boys and girls, grades K through 9, to register for the 2012 Juniata College Basketball Day Camp, which begins Monday, July 30. Camp starts Monday at 9 a.m. in the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center, with walk-up registration available starting at 8:30 a.m. The camp runs daily through Friday, Aug. 3, starting at 9 a.m. and concluding at 3 p.m. Campers are also welcome to remain from 3-4 p.m. for either open gym time and individual work with Juniata men's basketball players, or open swim in the pool. This comprehensive instructional camp is suitable for players of all skill levels, and includes daily games and competitions, guest speakers, teaching stations, and much more. The cost is $150 per child and includes lunch daily and a camp t-shirt. Multiple children discounts are also available for families with more than one child registered.
