All of us have heard and used the phase scapegoat at one time or another.
Could it be that we have one in the name of Joe Paterno? The man is not here to defend himself, and, oh, how easy it is to criticize.
The brilliant Board of Trustees hired Louis Freeh, and I am sure paid him a handsome fee, and what did we get? Exactly what the board expected - a slanted opinion.
Rod Erickson, Karen Peetz and Ken Frazier stood up at their question-and- answer session with arrogance and without shame. You could see in their faces that they were as guilty as all the others.
Although Paterno was not totally exempt from this sorry group, he does not deserve the harsh and cruel treatment he and his family is receiving.
It will be interesting to hear what the Paterno family report has to say.
It would be wise and best for the university to clean house - especially the Board of Trustees. They are pathetic.
