Covering the bases

July 27, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: The Curve's series opener with New Hampshire was rained out Thursday. The two teams will play a doubleheader tonight with game one starting at 6 p.m.

SAFE AT FIRST: Entering tonight, the Curve's last five home games have all went seven innings. With another twinbill tonight, it will mark seven straight contests at Peoples Natural Gas Field that have gone seven innings. The Curve haven't played a nine-inning home game since July 9.

STEALING SECOND: Altoona and New Hampshire have yet to play each other this year. New Hampshire is the only Eastern League opponent the Curve haven't played in 2012 and the Fisher Cats have the worst record in the league this season at 40-64.

ROUNDING THIRD: It's not certain who will start for the Curve tonight, but it's likely Phil Irwin will get the nod in one of the games as he was slated to throw Thursday. In his last five starts, Irwin has a 1.29 ERA.

HEADING HOME: Tonight will be Alex "Not Elvis" Presley figurine giveaway night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The figurine has the former Curve outfielder wearing an Elvis-like suit and will be handed out to the 1,000 fans in attendance.
