Charles Ellis Bechtel Jr., 72, Cape Coral, Fla., died Wednesday.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of Charles Ellis Sr. and Flora (Furry) Bechtel.
Surviving are his wife, Dorie; two daughters: Julie Bechtel of Cape Coral, Fla., and Betsy Bechtel Hulvey (Glenn) of Harrisonburg, Va.; a son, Eric Bechtel of Cape Coral; a grandson, Matthew Hulvey; two sisters: Ann Stahl and Lou Lingenfelter; and a half sister, Nita Somerville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bowser; a half brother, C. Carl Bechtel; two half sisters: Erdene Smith and Belva Stiffler; and two infant grandchildren: Rebekah and Jacob Hulvey.
Charles graduated from Morrison Cove High School and attended Penn State University. He was self-employed as a dairy farmer and later worked as a carpenter for Blair County. He was a member of the Lions Club and Blair County Master Gardeners, and he was an active member of Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren and the Middle Pennsylvania District Disaster Response Team.
After his move to Florida in 1997, Charles attended First Congregational Church of Cape Coral.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at First Congregational Church, 312 Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral, Fla., and at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either church.
