Armand A. Joseph, 91, Altoona, died Friday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview after an extended illness.

He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late John and Rose (Di Michaelangelo) Joseph. He married Lena C. Callisto on Nov. 3, 1956, in Altoona. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2010.

Mr. Joseph is survived by two sons; John A. Joseph and wife, Jo (Hinish) of Duncansville and Armand L. Joseph and wife, Sarah (Bliss) of Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren: Rachel, Jonathan, Reid and Erin Joseph; and two sisters: Angeline Di Michaelangelo and Gilda Zavodni, both of Youngstown, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, Henry and Eugene; and two sisters: Mary Bambocci and Lena De Santes.

Mr. Joseph was a graduate of the former Gallitzin High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College and a Master of Education degree from Penn State University.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater.

He retired as an administrator from the Penn Cambria School District in 1986, after 35 years of service. Prior to that, he served in various teaching positions in the Greater Gallitzin Joint School District and in the Reade Township School District. He also worked on the Pittsburgh and Middle Divisions of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Mr. Joseph was a member of PASR Blair County Chapter, PSERS, St. Francis National Alumni Association and Gallitzin Area Alumni Association.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
