John Stever

John Stever, 88, a resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Lakemont, died Wednesday.

He was born in Cassville, son of the late Karl and Annie Mae (Conrad) Stever. He married Betty L. Parks on June 3, 1949, and she died July 23, 1995, after 46 years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters: Patsy M. and fiance, Butch Mobley, and Nancy L. Oldham and husband, Dean, all of Roaring Spring; two grandchildren: Lynn and Crystal; a great-grandson; and a sister, Hazel Burket in Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bice; and a brother, Maurice.

John was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired from the banana department of the A&P warehouse. He was a member of First Church of God, Lakemont, and a life member of the Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company. He and his father were former caretakers of Cassville Cemetery.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, yard work and feeding the squirrels.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, by the Rev. Mark A. Rhodes. Interment will be at Cassville Cemetery with military honors by the Huntingdon County Veterans.
