Marlene Joyce Thornton, 78, Altoona, passed away Saturday at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Earl and Geraldine (Hershel) Bradley. She married Clayton George Thornton, who died Sept. 17, 2004.
Surviving are a daughter, Maureen (Bill) McClellan of East Freedom; a son, Ron (Diane) Thornton of Tyrone; eight grandchildren: Mike, Rich and Stephanie McClellan, Katie, Patrick and Jennifer Thornton, and Becky Smith and Mike Clark; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Shaffer of Altoona.

She was preceded by a sister, Patricia McCabe.
Marlene was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Altoona. She enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., officiated by the Rev. John Bonebreak.
Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park.
