The Catholic bishops of the United States have suggested that all Catholics observe a "Fortnight of Freedom." The 14 days from June 21 to Wednesday are to be a time of action in defense of religious liberty.
This special period of prayer and public action would emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty.
Religious freedom has the distinction of being the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. Religious freedom is a gift from God, not the state.
When our government can mandate that Catholics do something which is against their faith, people of all faiths should pray that they don't lose their religious freedom.
