The 2012 CBRC Men's Mansion Basketball League has been under way for 2 weeks now, and the top teams are starting to separate themselves.
The Odd Section of Division 1 holds the lone undefeated team in Mike Miller's Auto at 3-0. Miller's, a team comprised mostly of Johnstown-area players, was able to overcome a strong Guy Landolfi, CPA, team last Thursday behind 27 points from Marcus Tullis. It was a very important victory as Landolfi looks like the team to beat in D1.
Minus the lone loss to Miller's, Landolfi has looked strong thus far with a 3-1 record. On Wednesday, Landolfi showed its prowess defeating T-Cals, LLC, 94-61. Demetrius Davis and Jordan Miller scored 30 and 35, respectively, and have been leading the team all year.
In the Even Section, Hotel Belmar holds first place at 3-1 with its only loss coming against Mountain Cat Basketball. Belmar may be the most balanced of all the teams in D1, with at least six players who can score 25 on any given night. This gives Belmar a lot of options and should lead it to winning the Even Section.
Division 1 is proving its competitiveness with only one undefeated team and every team having at least one win. The race for the top four spots in each section will be interesting and should come down to the last week of games.
In Division 2, Perry Wellington Realty of the Odd Section and Buy the Slice/The Island of the Even Section both are 4-0.
Wellington has played strong all year thanks to former Division 1 standouts Brian Rehm and Brent Gerwert. Rehm and Gerwert spearhead the Wellington attack with a great inside-outside combo.
Buy the Slice/The Island lacks Mansion Park experience but makes it up with overall talent and athleticism. Shooting guard Brian Forney and power forward Rob Wheeler have been leading Buy the Slice, and the team looks poised to make a strong run for a D2 championship.
Perennial powerhouses Best Way Pizza/Fat Daddy's and Co"BRH"s Green both are 0-4 and look to be the biggest surprises of D2 thus far. Both of the teams have been in the championship game over the last three years and need to turn their seasons around if they would like a shot this year.
