Jeffrey G. Mathews, 50, Port Matilda, formerly of Altoona, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at his residence.
He was born in McKeesport, son of Martha (Ruhl) Mathews and the late Carl D. Mathews, who died in 2011. He and his wife, Jacqueline, were married by Pastor Steve Clifton.
Surviving are his mother of Clairton; his wife; his mother-in-law, Bobbi Sallese of Johnstown; two children, Melinda and Trey, and their mother, Kimberly Mathews-King; four stepchildren: Michaela, Donavon, Christopher and Zachary; three sisters: Diana McVady and husband, James, of Mount Washington, Ky., Annette Fletcher and husband, Jeffrey, of Cameron, N.C., and Susan Baccile and husband, Dominick, of Clairton; two brothers: Carl and wife, Kimberly, of Greensburg and Mark and wife, Mary, of Clairton; two brothers-in-law: Thomas and Col. Christopher Sallese; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jeffrey was a 1978 graduate of Clairton High School and a 1981 graduate of the Community College of Allegheny County with a business degree. He was employed as a career manager in the restaurant and hospitality industry. He enjoyed his family, golfing and kayaking.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. A graveside committal service will be held at Grays Woods Cemetery, Port Matilda, by Pastor Steve Clifton.
