Joseph Magnus, 92, formerly of Ganister, rural Williamsburg, passed away early Wednesday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was born in Ganister, son of the late Metro and Anna (Homsey) Magnus. He married Elsie Carroll in May 1950 in Ganister, and she passed away March 15, 1987.
Surviving are seven nieces and nephews: Kathy Aufiero, Sandra Creamer, Cindy Shrom, Linda Daly, David Magnus, Carol Magnus and Robert Magnus; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and their families.
He was the last of his immediate family of eight children, having been preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Sottile and Ann Verno; and five brothers: George, Michael, Metro, Ivan John and Andrew.
Joe formerly attended the Ganister schoolhouse, rural Williamsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, attaining the rank of sergeant. He retired from Conrail, Samuel Rea Shop, Hollidaysburg.
Joe was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, rural Williamsburg, where he formerly served as president, vice president and treasurer of the rectory committee. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received from 12:30 until the 2 p.m. requiem service Monday, July 2, 2012, at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, the Rev. G. Andrew Matychak officiating. Committal service will follow at St. Mary's Orthodox Church Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
