Margaret Elizabeth ‘Maggie’ (Halleran) Moore

Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" (Halleran) Moore, 91, Huntingdon, formerly of Tyrone, died Wednesday at The Oaks at Westminster Woods at Huntingdon.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of James Patrick Curtin and Catherine (Hickey) Halleran. She married Francis Leroy Moore on Dec. 16, 1944, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, and he died Feb. 7, 2006.

Surviving are three sons: James F. and wife, Deanna, of Huntingdon, Patrick M. and wife, Deborah, of Phoenix, Md., and Timothy J. and wife, Johnnie Sue, of Huntingdon; a daughter, Colleen M. Neville and husband, Dan, of Huntingdon; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Margaret was a 1940 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1941 graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce. She relocated to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the War Department as well as the Department of Labor and Industry. After returning to Tyrone, she worked on a temporary basis for Tyrone Cable Co.

An advocate for voting, she served as a Democratic minority leader for the 3rd Ward in Tyrone. She served as a participant in the "Active" Research program with Penn State University, and most recently she volunteered to assist Juniata College students researching geriatrics.

Margaret was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon, Catholic Daughters of America and Court St. Rita and a previous member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone.

She was well known for her love of family and friends. Her hospitality and kindness will always be remembered. She was proud to be Irish, as she loved to sing and dance and was often the life of the party.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon. Friends will also be received from 2 until the 3 p.m. funeral Mass Monday, July 2, 2012, at the church, Father David Arseneault as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Tyrone.
