A suicide a day in our military. There are more deaths by suicide than killed in action in Afghanistan. Why? Because of continuous redeployment.
War is hell and especially this one.
In past wars, servicemen returning from combat to home were not sent back to hell.
In today's system, where there is no draft, replacements, mostly National Guardsmen and Reservists, are redeployed back into this horror at least four or five times for six-month stays, with no end in sight. It's like waiting to be killed or maimed.
On their intermittent home furloughs, they sleep with nightmares.
I haven't seen any figures on desertion released by the government. It probably dwarfs suicides.
Our government should be ashamed of itself.
