Penn State coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Friday that senior receiver Devon Smith "has left the team for personal reasons," according to the official Twitter account for the football program.
Several media outlets, citing anonymous sources, reported earlier this week that Smith had been dismissed from the team. The 5-foot-7 receiver was third on the Nittany Lions in catches (25) and receiving yards (402) in 2011.
Smith faces charges for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia stemming from a search of his apartment in March.
