Betty J. "Bett" Hamer, 73, of Altoona died Wednesday at her residence after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Antis Township, daughter of the late Della Mae (Cherry) Oswald and stepdaughter of the late George F. Oswald and daughter of the late John Chester Hollen.
She married Clarence E. Hamer Jr. on June 28, 1958. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Steven J. and wife, Kimberly, of Tyrone; three sisters: Dorothy Smith (Paul), Martha Cherry and Katherine Patton; two beloved granddaughters: Courtney and Ashley of Tyrone; a cherished nephew, Mike Estep (Adra); and sisters-in-law, Marlene Hollen and Labetta Shawley.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Dean and John Hollen; and a sister: Rachel Cherry.
Bett was a member of Riggles Gap Bible Church.
She was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and was a medical secretary for numerous doctor offices in the Altoona area. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters.
Friends will be received from 1 until the 4 p.m. funeral service Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Vincent J. Good Funeral Parlor, Bellwood. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
