Donald E. Garman, 76, Hollidaysburg, died Monday evening at Valley View Home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in East Loop, son of the late Harvey and Helen (Socie) Garman. He married Hilda Marie Taylor in 1964. She died in 1994.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey (Sharon) of Altoona; three brothers: Harry C. and Roger Sr. (Linda), all of Hollidaysburg, and Stephen R. (Bonnie) of Williamsburg; four sisters: Betty (Bernie) Baker of West Loop, Nora (Michael) Zapotoczny of Hollidaysburg, Judith (Gordon) Lynn of Canoe Creek and Kathy (Timothy) Woods of West Loop; and a grandcat, Molly.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Thomas; and an infant brother.
Mr. Garman was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the former Berwind Railway Service Co. in 1998, after more than 38 years of service. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry.
Donald enjoyed Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, hunting, fishing, dirt track racing, bike riding, shooting and railroads and railroad history.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, by Monsignor Anthony Little.
Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Leamersville.
